«Le Rendez-vous» is the novel by Justine Lévy published in 1996 by France Loisirs in hardback, in French.
The novel centres on Louise, aged 18, who waits for her mother at the Parisian café where her divorced parents first met. During that wait, Louise reconstructs her relationship with Alice, a narcissistic and absent mother, a liar, fond of drugs and with stints in prison, for whom she feels a needy and contradictory love.
It was Justine Lévy's first novel and received the Prix Contrepoint in 1996. The work belongs to French literary fiction.
A read for those seeking contemporary French narrative with a strong autobiographical charge and a complex mother-child bond.
