«L'auca del senyor Esteve» is the comedy in five acts and ten scenes by Santiago Rusiñol, published by Edicions 62 in paperback (144 pages, in Catalan).
Senyor Esteve, a petit bourgeois from Barcelona, sees his son wanting to be an artist. The clash between bourgeois mentality and the young man's idealism raises the question of the artist's relationship with bourgeois society, one of the central issues of modernism; the work resolves in a pact between both worlds.
Written as a novel in 1907, its theatrical version premiered in 1917. The 2001 edition belongs to the Butxaca collection, number 60, from Edicions 62.
May interest students of Catalan literature and readers of modernist theatre.
