Synopsis of La virgen y el violín

La virgen y el violín es una novela de Carmen Boullosa que recrea la vida de la pintora Sofonisba Anguissola (1532-1625). La historia nos transporta a la Lombardía del siglo XVI, donde Anguissola nació y donde también se crearon los primeros stradivarius. La novela explora la vida de la artista como dama de la reina y pintora de la corte de Felipe II, su matrimonio arreglado con un noble siciliano y su posterior matrimonio por amor con el capitán de la flota que la rescató en Palermo. A través de estos eventos, la novela presenta un fresco de la época, con personajes que van desde Miguel Ángel hasta el nieto de Moctezuma, y explora temas de amor imposible, intrigas cortesanas y el nacimiento de una obra de arte.
