«La Vie mentie» is the contemporary novel by Michel del Castillo, published by LGF/Le Livre de Poche in paperback (409 pages, in French).
Salvador Portal, a former activist turned coach, suffers from unease. After his father's suicide, Salvador delves into his past: his grandmother Véra, a Berlin Jew, fled Nazism by following Rafael Portal to Spain, murdered in 1936. The novel evokes Civil War Spain, with Unamuno in the background, and critiques contemporary society.
The work was originally published in 2007; this French paperback edition appeared in 2009.
Novel for readers interested in contemporary fiction, Spanish historical memory, and social critique.
