The Lüneburg Variation is a novel by the Italian author Paolo Maurensig, published in 1995. The story begins with the death of an industrialist in his mansion, after a game of chess. The novel takes the reader to a labyrinth of mirrors and memories, where two chess masters, opposed in everything, face each other in a game that crosses the years and political cataclysms. One of them is Jewish and the other a former Nazi officer.
Paolo Maurensig was an Italian novelist, best known for his book Canone inverso (1996), a complex tale of a violin and its owners.
