«La última función» is the children's novel by Mónica Rodríguez, published by Anaya Infantil y Juvenil in paperback (80 pages, in Spanish).
The story begins with the question of what lies behind a clown's makeup and red nose. The narrator suggests the reader put on a clown nose and recall the laughter caused by clowning around, though he warns that this story does not start in a comic tone. Thus, the plot approaches the emotions hidden behind the smile.
It belongs to Anaya's El Duende Verde collection, number 185. It won first prize in the XXX Children's Narrative Contest Vila d'Ibi in 2011, with illustrations by Adolfo Serra.
Recommended reading for readers aged 11 and up, especially for those seeking children's and young adult stories with emotional depth.
