«La puissance des mouches» is the contemporary novel by Lydie Salvayre, published by Points in paperback (180 pages, in French).
A former museum guide, imprisoned for a crime, tells his life story to his lawyer and the psychiatrist. Amid irony and cultured references, he unfolds a childhood dominated by contempt for his father, the tedium of his job, and a complex marriage; the confession becomes lucid, corrosive, and at times heartbreaking.
Classified as general and literary fiction, this 2014 edition is number 316 in the Points collection.
For readers of literary fiction who enjoy intimate confessions and an ironic register.
Lydie Salvayre is a French writer. Born in the south of France to Republican refugees from the Spanish Civil War, she went on to study medicine in Toulouse and continues to work as a practicing psychiatrist.
