The protagonist, Titahija, is the youngest daughter of a family of Russian exiles who have taken refuge in Lorraine. At just six months old, she survives a car accident in which her mother loses her life, her face scarred by a scar. Tita fights against her tragic destiny, trying to break the spell that weighs on her family. Her loves are painful and complicated, and although marriage or a child could save her, it seems that this curse has become her reason for living.
