He is the President of the Fundación International para la Libertad (FIL) and of the Cátedra Vargas Llosa. He was very involved in the struggle for the return of democracy in Peru at the end of the 1990s and the years 2000–2001. He was a member of the Global Commission for Post-Pandemic Policy together with several former heads of government, notable business people and public intellectuals. He speaks English, Spanish and French.
