The book brings together two short novels. «La casa de Matriona»: a mathematics teacher released from the gulag lodges in the home of an elderly widowed peasant woman, generous and scorned by her village. «Nunca cometemos errores»: during the Second World War, an officer at a remote station sees his convictions waver when he receives a stranger.
Translation by Julia Pericacho and Xavier Fierro. 1984 edition from the «Obras Maestras de la Literatura Contemporánea» collection (no. 83). The novel «La casa de Matriona» was originally published in 1963.
