«La bicicletta» is the novel by Rosetta Loy, published by Einaudi in paperback (169 pages, in Italian).
The novel is set in a large country house and follows a family of the Italian upper bourgeoisie during the war and post-war period. Its core is adolescence: the characters are marked by that stage and, as time passes, they view reality from a distance, amid sensations, memories and a search for freedom.
The work was originally published in 1974; this Einaudi edition is from 1997 and includes a note by Natalia Ginzburg.
Rosetta Loy was an Italian writer. She was the recipient of the Rapallo Carige Prize for Le strade di polvere in 1988.
