«Kolwezi 1977» is the historical testimony of Jean Dusausoy, published by Editions Luc Pire in paperback (173 pages, in French).
Jean Dusausoy recalls his life as a Belgian technician expatriated to the Katanga mines in the seventies: work, distance from his loved ones, climate and human bonds. The calm is broken by the Shaba war (1977); in 1978 the FNLC occupies Kolwezi and the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment recovers it in seven days, with evacuation of Europeans and massacres.
Dusausoy was an industrial electronics technician and worked for Gécamines at the Kamoto underground mine, in what was then Zaire. The edition is from 2018, forty years after the battle of Kolwezi.
For readers of African history, personal memoirs and accounts of expatriates in Africa in the seventies.
