«Journey to the River Sea» is Eva Ibbotson's children's adventure novel, 20th anniversary edition, Pan Macmillan paperback, in English.
In 1910, Maia, a thirteen-year-old orphan, leaves England to live with distant relatives in Manaus, on the banks of the Amazon. Instead of the welcoming family she imagines, she finds two resentful cousins who detest the jungle. The Brazilian nature and a mysterious boy who lives alone on the riverbank lead her to a great adventure.
20th anniversary edition with an introduction by Emma Carroll and cover by Katie Hickey. The novel won the Nestlé Smarties Gold Medal and was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal and the Whitbread Award.
Recommended reading for children and young people aged 9 and up, especially for those who enjoy classic adventures and nature.
