«Jesus na Fogueira» is the novel by Catherine Clément, published by Edições Asa in paperback (240 pages, in Portuguese).
In a city in India, the narrator meets a man who offers her a version of the life of Jesus never heard before: what if Christ had not died on the cross? Catherine Clément builds a fiction on that premise, one that dialogues with the gospels, championing the imagination and literary freedom without intending to hurt beliefs.
Published in April 2001; translation by Isabel St. Aubyn.
For readers who appreciate fiction that freely reinterprets the great religious narratives.
