«It's My Birthday!» is the children's picture book by Paula Metcalf, published by Pan Childrens in paperback (32 pages, in English).
Elephant sisters Shirley and Doris are the protagonists: Doris arrives at Shirley's birthday wearing a hand-me-down dress, and all the guests' gifts are for the birthday girl. Disappointment takes over the party, and the story tackles jealousy and sisterly affection with humour and tenderness, leading to a sweet and sticky ending.
It belongs to the children's series A Shirley and Doris Book, starring the elephant sisters Shirley and Doris.
Aimed at young children and early readers, especially if there are siblings at home and reading can help discuss fraternal envy.
