Lucy and Sam want to have a child, but their attempts become an ordeal of treatments, remedies and humiliations. The novel satirizes from two points of view the obsession with conceiving and the social pressure to have children.
The novel was adapted into a film under the title Maybe Baby.
For readers of British comedy with a satirical view of couple relationships and the social pressure to have children.
