Synopsis of Imán
Imán, publicada por primera vez en 1930, es una obra maestra de Ramón J. Sender sobre la guerra y sus efectos en los individuos. Con un trasfondo biográfico evidente, ya que Sender prestó servicio militar en Marruecos, la novela se centra en el desastre español de Annual en 1921. El protagonista, el soldado Viance, es tanto un ejecutor como una víctima de las ansias coloniales, y la novela recrea con dramatismo y veracidad las penalidades del conflicto armado. Esta edición incluye un prólogo de Nil Santiáñez que sitúa la obra en el contexto de la narrativa de guerra europea, y una cuidada anotación que resuelve las dificultades del léxico técnico militar y africanista para los lectores actuales. La novela, ambientada en la guerra de Marruecos, sigue al joven aragonés Viance, cuyo apodo es Imán, a través de las brutales acciones bélicas. Ramón J. Sender
Ramón José Sender Garcés was a Spanish novelist, essayist and journalist. Several of his works were translated into English by the distinguished zoologist, Sir Peter Chalmers Mitchell, including Seven Red Sundays , Mr Witt Among the Rebels and The War in Spain (Contraataque). He published articles in the Valencia-based Orto magazine between 1932 and 1934. During the Spanish Civil War Sender was among the contributors of El Mono Azul, a Republican literary magazine.
