«I ragazzi di via Pál» is the young-adult novel by Ferenc Molnár, published by Opportunity Books in paperback (159 pages, in Italian).
In 1890s Budapest, a gang of boys defends a vacant lot between houses and a sawmill, their playground and refuge of freedom. When the Red Shirts threaten to take it away, they organize like a small army to protect it. The novel speaks of friendship, loyalty and courage, and of the price that growing up sometimes demands.
The work was originally serialized in 1907 under the title «A Pál utcai fiúk»; this Italian edition is from 1995.
For young readers; the indicated age of interest is 10 and up.
Ferenc Molnár, often anglicized as Franz Molnar, was a Hungarian-born author, stage director, dramatist, and poet. He is widely regarded as Hungary's most celebrated and controversial playwright.
