«Hotel Honolulu» is the novel by Paul Theroux, published by Seix Barral in 2002 in paperback (544 pages, in Spanish).
The narrator, an unlucky writer, ends up as manager of the Hotel Honolulu, a run-down establishment near Waikiki Beach. Newlyweds, soldiers, families and pathological liars pass through its eighty rooms, and each guest seems to be looking for something: sun, love, happiness or an unnameable longing. Through their stories, the novel satirises the Hawaiian dream and shows the flip side of the tourist paradise with irony and compassion.
It belongs to the Biblioteca Formentor collection. Spanish translation by Diego Friera and María José Díez. The original work was published in 2001.
Recommended for readers of contemporary literary fiction who enjoy social satire and stories set in Hawaii.
