Este libro cuenta la historia de una calle, la Rua particular à Azinhaga dos Lameiros, y su conexión con aquellos que la crearon: los residentes y propietarios. Se centra en el caso de uno de los residentes, explicando los motivos sociales, políticos y económicos que llevaron a la autoconstrucción de una casa en terreno propio, aunque fuera ilegal, durante la dictadura de Salazar/Marcelo Caetano. Tras el 25 de abril democrático, la legalización deseada no fue igual para todos los municipios. Solo con la adopción de la Ley 91/95 y la constitución de las AUGI's se abre el camino hacia la legalización. La relación actual con el ayuntamiento así lo sugiere.
