«Geisha of Gion» is the autobiography of Mineko Iwasaki with Rande Brown, published by Pocket Books in paperback (334 pages, in English).
Mineko Iwasaki, a geisha of Gion Kobu, recalls in these memoirs her childhood, her training in dance, music and protocol, and her career in the traditional world of geishas. The account, which culminates with her retirement at twenty-nine to marry, offers a personal testimony about a declining Japanese culture.
The work, copyrighted in 2002, was published in 2003; another edition bears the title «Geisha: A Life».
For readers interested in biographies, memoirs and Japanese culture.
