In 'Garoé', Alberto Vázquez-Figueroa introduces us to General Gonzalo Baeza, who receives the position of governor of the island of El Hierro with the mission of eradicating slavery and restoring justice in the Canary Islands. However, Baeza is reluctant to accept this offer, since returning to the island implies facing a painful past that he has tried to leave behind. In his youth, as a lieutenant, he suffered the loss of several men during an exploration mission on the island, where he also found love and discovered a secret jealously guarded by the islanders: a substance of incalculable value that will unleash the greed and ambition of many.
