«Freedom's Land» is the historical novel by Anna Jacobs, published by Hodder in paperback (408 pages, in English).
In 1923, the Australian government grants land to ex-servicemen to clear and create dairy farms. Norah, a widow of the Great War, and Andrew, also a widower, barely know each other; he proposes they emigrate together to Australia and start a family. The idea seems madness to her, but perhaps it is the answer to her dreams.
The work is part of a generational saga and is set in Australia; the historical episode of the settlement of ex-servicemen is real, although the characters are fictional.
A read for those who enjoy historical novels and family sagas about emigration and new beginnings.
