«Fortunata y Jacinta II» is the second volume of the realist novel by Benito Pérez Galdós, published by Cátedra in paperback (544 pages, in Spanish).
The novel is set in Madrid at the end of the 19th century and pits two worlds against each other: the popular world of Fortunata and the bourgeois world of Jacinta, linked by their relationship with Juanito Santa Cruz. Galdós combines a portrait of society with the psychological depth of his characters and a broad chorus of secondary figures.
Edition by Francisco Caudet in the Letras Hispánicas collection from Cátedra (no. 186). The work was originally published in 1887.

Benito María de los Dolores Pérez Galdós was a Spanish realist novelist and politician. He was a leading literary figure in 19th-century Spain, and some scholars consider him second only to Miguel de Cervantes in stature as a Spanish novelist.
