«Ensaio Respublicano» is Fernando Catroga's essay on political philosophy, published by FFMS in paperback (152 pages, in Portuguese).
The author traces the history of the idea of res publica and its demand for disinterest and virtue in commitment to the public thing. Against the ideal, he places historical practice, with advances, contradictions and setbacks in civic participation. Catroga links this tradition to the struggle against arbitrariness and servility before the powers.
It is number 19 of the Ensaios da Fundação collection, from Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos. The work falls within the themes of republicanism, history and political philosophy.
Work recommended for those interested in political philosophy, republicanism and the history of ideas.
