«El saltamontes verde y otros cuentos» is a collection of stories by Ana María Matute, published by Lumen in paperback (96 pages, in Spanish).
The story that gives the volume its title features Yungo, a boy who has lost his voice and believes someone has stolen it. Convinced it is hidden on an island he has drawn, he sets off for the Beautiful Country in search of words and finds something more important. The other stories explore childhood, solitude and the search for identity.
Volume number 10 of Lumen's Grandes Autores Bolsillo collection. It was originally published in 1978.
Recommended for readers aged 10 and up and for those who enjoy children's and young adult fiction in Spanish.
