«El pez que sonreía» is the illustrated album by Jimmy Liao, published by Barbara Fiore Editora in paperback (100 pages, in Spanish).
Jimmy has a fish as loyal as a dog, as affectionate as a cat, and as devoted as a wife. The fish smiles, invites Jimmy to dance, and together they set off on the journey back to the sea. An illustrated and poetic fable about freedom, whose animated adaptation won the Special Prize at the 2006 Berlin Film Festival.
First edition published in 2010. Translated from the Chinese by Jordi Ainaud i Escudero. Part of the Cuentos collection by Barbara Fiore Editora.
For children and young adult readers, especially those who enjoy illustrated albums with a poetic and visual message.
Jimmy Liao is a Taiwanese illustrator as well as a picture book writer. His Chinese pen name (幾米) is phonetically derived from his English given name Jimmy.
