«El mono azul» is the novel by Aquilino Duque published in 2002 by Ediciones Libanó in hardback (154 pages, in Spanish).
Set in Andalusia during the Spanish Civil War, the novel blends costumbrismo with a private story in which politics taken to extremes ignites resentments that would otherwise not have surfaced. The character of Tobalo, wounded and convicted, forces those around him to choose between clemency and justice.
Finalist for the Nadal Prize in 1973. This edition belongs to the Biblioteca AlSur collection (no. 22).
Aquilino Duque Gimeno was a Spanish poet and writer. He received the National Literature Prize for Narrative in 1974.
