«El misterio de la cripta embrujada» is the mystery and humour novel by Eduardo Mendoza, published by Seix Barral in paperback (178 pages, in Spanish).
In late-1970s Barcelona, a mental asylum patient becomes an investigator by force when several girls disappear from a religious school in San Gervasio. The inquiry drags him through a series of entanglements and absurd situations, in a satirical critique of the society of the time.
This edition is from 1986; the novel was originally published in 1978. It is the first instalment of the series «El innombrado detective o El paciente del Doctor Sugrañes».
For readers of mystery and humour novels who want to start with the origin of Eduardo Mendoza's unnamed detective.

Eduardo Mendoza Garriga is a Spanish novelist, playwright, and essayist.
