In "El maestro y las magas" (The Master and the Magicians), Alejandro Jodorowsky recounts his encounter with the Japanese master Ejo Takata, who introduced him to meditation, Zen Buddhism, and the teaching of koans. Despite this initiation, Jodorowsky learned the practical application of these knowledges from a group of women who had nothing to do with Buddhism. In this book, Jodorowsky introduces us to the surrealist writer Leonora Carrington, Doña Magdalena, the Mexican actress La Tigresa, and Reyna D'Assia, daughter of the occultist G.I. Gurdjieff, among other magicians who influenced his life.

Alejandro Jodorowsky Prullansky is a Chilean and French avant-garde filmmaker. Known for his films El Topo (1970), The Holy Mountain (1973) and Santa Sangre (1989), Jodorowsky has been "venerated by cult cinema enthusiasts" for his work which "is filled with violently surreal images and a hybrid blend of mysticism and religious provocation".
