«El infierno fuimos nosotros. La Guerra Civil española» is a historical essay by Bartolomé Bennassar, published by Taurus in paperback (544 pages).
The essay revisits the Spanish Civil War from a thesis that considers both sides guilty. Bennassar relies on the testimony of the last survivors and on previously forbidden archives to question the simplistic reading of «rojos contra fascistas» and defend a more complex and critical historical memory.
The edition was published on 21 September 2005, belongs to the Taurus Historia collection and is written in Spanish.
A work for readers interested in the contemporary history of Spain and in critical readings of the Civil War away from the partisan narrative.
Bartolomé Bennassar was a French historian and writer. He specialized in Spanish and Latin American history.
