On Maundy Thursday 1929, Genaro Blanco Blanco, a tanner and regular of the León underworld, was run over by the city's first garbage truck. This event began a legend that lasts to this day. His death was so notorious that a brotherhood of poets and bohemians was soon created to honor his memory. 'The Burial of Genarín' is the chronicle of this legend, an ironic tribute to a bon vivant who has become the saint of drunks and bohemians. Julio Llamazares draws a funny portrait of the unusual procession that every Maundy Thursday runs through the streets of León.
Julio Llamazares is a Spanish author born in Vegamián, León Province.
