«El contrato social» is the political philosophy essay by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, published by Libsa Editorial in paperback (173 pages, in Spanish).
Rousseau analyses the history of human societies as a history of inequalities and argues that legitimate authority must be founded on a social contract. His proposal places law and collective consent in place of force, and maintains that political institutions determine the moral life of peoples.
Originally published in 1762 as Du contrat social; this Spanish edition is from 1987 and includes a prologue by Manuel Tuñón de Lara.
Will appeal to readers of political philosophy and social theory who wish to approach a classic of thought on the legitimacy of power.
Jean-Jacques Rousseau was a Genevan philosopher, philosophe, writer, and composer. His political philosophy influenced the progress of the Age of Enlightenment throughout Europe, as well as aspects of the French Revolution and the development of modern political, economic, and educational thought.
