«El cautivo» is the historical novel by Jesús Sánchez Adalid, published by ZETA BOLSILLO in paperback (528 pages, in Spanish).
In the sixteenth century, the young Luis María Monroy de Villalobos enters the castle of Belvís as a page to train as a knight. He serves Charles V and then joins the tercio of don Álvaro de Sande in Milan, taking part in Philip II's expedition that ends in the disaster of Los Gelves. The novel contrasts courtly ideals, music and poetry with the harshness of war and captivity.
Recommended for readers of historical and adventure novels set in the Spanish empire of the sixteenth century.
