«Die verlorenen Söhne» is Necla Kelek's essay on the Turkish-Muslim man, published by Goldmann Verlag in paperback (253 pages, in German).
Necla Kelek analyses biographies of Turkish-Muslim men in Germany, often marked by prison. She portrays codes of honour, patriarchal roles and an imposed masculinity that blocks integration: these men are both agents and victims of the system. For Kelek, the emancipation of these men is a condition of gender equality.
Published in 2007. Winner of the Corine Internationaler Buchpreis in the Sachbuch category.
A work of interest for readers of sociological essays, studies on migration, Islam and social criticism in Germany.
