«Die Heinzelmännchen von Köln» is the illustrated children's story by August Kopisch and Eve Tharlet, published by Junior International in hardback (28 pages).
It tells the legend of the little gnomes of Cologne who, every night in secret, do the work of the craftsmen and the household chores while the neighbours sleep. The tailor's wife's curiosity puts an end to the custom: she scatters peas to see them, the gnomes slip and fall down the stairs, and by following them with a candle she drives them away forever.
August Kopisch's original text was published in 1836 under the title «Die Heinzelmännchen zu Köln»; this Junior International edition is in German.
Suitable for children and adults who want to share a classic German legend about Cologne folklore with the family.
August Kopisch was a German poet and painter.
