«Diario (1953-1969)» is the literary diary of Witold Gombrowicz, published by Seix Barral in paperback (864 pages, in Spanish).
It is not a conventional diary but a deliberately constructed work: a kind of self-portrait in motion in which Gombrowicz shapes his public persona. Its pages bring together everyday scenes, philosophical meditations, polemics, lyrical passages, grotesque humour, fiction, and the author's observations on his own writing.
The chapters making up the diary were first published in the monthly magazine Kultura and then revised by the author for this edition of the Biblioteca Gombrowicz.
A work for readers of twentieth-century Central European literature who appreciate the prose of ideas, humour, and autofiction; it lends itself to reading in small doses.

Witold Marian Gombrowicz was a Polish writer and playwright. His works are characterised by deep psychological analysis, a certain sense of paradox and absurd, anti-nationalist flavor. In 1937, he published his first novel, Ferdydurke, which presented many of his usual themes: problems of immaturity and youth, creation of identity in interactions with others, and an ironic, critical examination of class roles in Polish society and culture.
