«Der mit dem Wolf tanzt» is the historical novel by Michael Blake, published by Gustav Lubbe Verlag in paperback (282 pages, in German).
The novel follows Lieutenant John Dunbar, a white soldier who ends up alone in an abandoned fort on the frontier. There he makes contact with a native community of the prairies; his coexistence with it, marked by respect and danger, changes his life and earns him the name that gives the story its title.
This 1991 German edition, translated by Joachim Honneff, carries the subtitle «Der Roman zum Film»; the work was originally published in 1988 as «Dances with Wolves», first instalment of the eponymous series.
Recommended to readers of historical and Western novels, and to those who want to know the story that gave rise to the film starring Kevin Costner.
