«Del tener al ser: caminos y extravíos de la conciencia» is the philosophical essay by Erich Fromm, published by Paidós in paperback (170 pages).
Fromm contrasts two modes of life: 'having', centred on accumulating and consuming, and 'being', oriented towards personal development. After pointing out the aberrations of consciousness, he criticises the consumerist promise of wisdom without effort and proposes self-analysis to rediscover physical, psychic and spiritual forces.
First volume of the Erich Fromm posthumous works collection, published in 1991. ISBN: 9788475097275.
For readers interested in philosophy and psychology, and in the humanist critique of consumerism and alienation.
