«De verrekijker» is the short novel by Kees van Kooten, published by ECI B.V. in hardback (94 pages, in Dutch).
Kees van Kooten finds a letter in a photo album that his father, an artillery sergeant, put together during the 1939 mobilisation and the war. The military missive asks for explanations about binoculars requisitioned from a certain J. Treurniet; as the writer still keeps that object, he wonders if as a child he played with war booty.
It was published on 7 March 2013; the cover adds «Inclusief de Literagenda 2013-2014».
For Dutch readers looking for a short story about family memory and the Second World War.
