«Cuentos por teléfono» is Gianni Rodari's children's storybook, published by Editorial Juventud in hardback (144 pages, in Spanish).
The stories in this volume show Rodari experimenting with language and narrative structure, always with humour and wit. The tales invite young readers to think for themselves and tackle with irony such issues as war, human foolishness or consumerism.
It belongs to the collection «La hora del cuento», with 138 illustrations by Emilio Urberuaga, National Illustration Award 2011. Originally written in Italian.
Recommended reading from age 7, for both children and adults looking for stories with humour and imagination.
Giovanni Francesco "Gianni" Rodari was an Italian writer and journalist, most famous for his works of children's literature, notably Il romanzo di Cipollino. For his lasting contribution as a children's author, he received the biennial Hans Christian Andersen Medal in 1970. He is considered Italy's most important 20th-century children's author, and his books have been translated into many languages, though few have been published in English.
