«Cuba, más allá de Fidel» is the travel essay by Jorge Moreta Pérez, published by ALTAIR in paperback (304 pages, in Spanish).
The author travels across Cuba from east to west by car, some 3,000 kilometres from Santiago de Cuba, to show the island beyond the tourist cliché. The narrative follows the traces of the Spanish colonisers, the wars of independence and the Castro revolution, and gives voice to the inhabitants who recount their experiences, stories and legends of the last five centuries.
It belongs to the Heterodoxos collection, number 9. First edition published in 2009.
Recommended for readers interested in travel literature, contemporary Cuban history and testimonies of its social reality.
