Nicolas Mathieu is a French novelist who has also written short fiction and children's literature. He was awarded the Prix Goncourt in 2018 for his novel Leurs enfants après eux, which follows a group of young people growing up in the aftermath of deindustrialization in northeastern France, a theme that recurs throughout his work, notably Connemara and Aux Animaux la Guerre
