«Cher premier amour» is the love novel by Zoé Valdés, published by Actes Sud in paperback (331 pages, in French).
Danaé, a woman trapped in domestic life, embarks on a train journey to a mysterious Cuban valley that holds the memory of her adolescence. There, at thirteen, during classes in the countryside, she experienced a forbidden love; that return to the landscapes of childhood confronts her with memory, the land, and awakened desires.
Translated from Spanish (Cuba) by Liliane Hasson, it is part of the Lettres latino-américaines collection from Actes Sud. Finalist for the Ferro-Grumley Award for lesbian fiction in 2003.
A read for those seeking contemporary narrative with a Cuban setting and stories of sentimental awakening and memory.
