Synopsis of Ceux qu'on aime

In 'Those We Love', Victoria Hislop transports us to the Greece of the 1940s, recently liberated from German occupation, where internal tensions are running high. Themis, a young idealist, joins the communists, willing to give her life for freedom. After being arrested and sent to the island of Makronissos, she meets another militant with whom she strikes up a deep friendship. However, when her friend is sentenced to death, Themis makes a decision that will haunt her for years. In the twilight of her life, Themis decides to reveal her tormented past, aware that some wounds must be reopened in order to heal.
