«Carta blanca» is the novel by Lorenzo Silva, published by Booket in paperback format (384 pages, in Spanish).
The story follows Juan Faura, a young legionary who takes part in the Moroccan War and, years later, in the Spanish Civil War. Between disillusionment and the bitterness of conflicts, the novel revolves around an intense passion and a failed love affair that drive him to a nearly suicidal campaign. Silva thus portrays the evolution of an antihero marked by human cruelty, feelings taken to the extreme, and the search for redemption through love.
The novel received the Premio Primavera de Novela 2004.
Recommended for readers of historical fiction and contemporary narrative interested in 20th-century military conflicts and antihero characters.
