«Candide, or Optimism» was first published in 1759. This edition by Tinta da China seeks to rehabilitate the text in its initial version, preserving the characteristics typical of Voltaire's discourse in his «philosophical tales»: freshness, freedom of form, and imagination. The notes and afterword help to understand the meanings and references of Candide, as well as its relationship with Portugal at the time of the Great Earthquake. The beautiful drawings by Vera Tavares add a very special charm to Voltaire's text.
