«Bodentiefe Fenster» is the novel by Anke Stelling published by Ullstein Taschenbuchverlag in paperback, with 256 pages, in German.
Sandra, daughter of the ’68 generation, reaches forty with two children and the certainty that inherited ideals dissolve in the day-to-day life of her Prenzlauer Berg neighbourhood. Like a domestic Cassandra, she sees the loss of utopia in neighbourhood assemblies and children’s parties, while the floor-to-ceiling windows expose a life that no longer finds meaning.
Originally published in 2015; this paperback edition came out in 2016. It was on the longlist for the Deutscher Buchpreis 2015.
