«Big City Rap» is the young adult novel by Maria Seidemann, published by Arena in paperback (160 pages, in German).
A gang of young people spends the summer in a Potsdam neighbourhood, where unemployment, truancy and theft mark daily life. When a refugee centre burns down, violence erupts and the group's friendship wavers; for two of them, hip-hop is an escape route to express the freedom they lack, as in their track ‘Tame Birds’.
Published in 1998, it belongs to the Arena Life collection; this edition applies the new German orthography.
For readers aged 14 and up and for those seeking urban stories about music, friendship and social conflict.
