Set in London at the beginning of World War II, the story follows Simon Batley, a former physics student in Berlin who once worked for British intelligence. After a past catastrophe that ended his relationship with Hedi von Treyden, Batley is drawn back into espionage when he discovers a new, devastating German weapon. Instructed by figures like Niels Bohr and Rudolf Heß, he infiltrates the Third Reich to track down Hans Kammler, the powerful Nazi official in charge of secret weapons programs. As he races against Soviet and American intelligence to secure the German technology, Batley also pursues a personal mission to find Hedi and uncover the truth about what happened in Berlin years ago.
